How To Find and Browse Lost or Deleted Webpages

Internet is very unstable. According to current web statistics, if 500+ websites are created every minute then nearly 100 websites are getting discontinued too. So, chances are, some important bookmarks, webpages links, websites that you have saved months ago are not working now.
Another frustrating thing we face while searching internet is, going to a promising website for our search result and finding it unavailable, link broken, website discontinued or server down. It happens all the time. Server gets jammed, pages removed, some server move and some server are no longer maintained. Many times, due to high volume of traffic from Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit, etc. make server jammed if the website’s server is not enough strong to control the influx.

If you face these issues too frequently than here I am telling you three workarounds which will help you to get the lost content even when it has been removed or server jammed.

Workaround #1 – Using Coral Cache

Coral cache is a free CDN service that uses distributed computing to provide distributed mirrors of original webpage that can handle high traffic volume. To use it, just append the website with .nyud.net and browse this domain instead of directly connecting to the site. For example, www.ckkapoor.blogpsot.com.nyud.net will load our website from Coral Cache.

Having its servers available worldwide, coral cache serves the mirror of a webpage from its server nearest to your location. So, the coral cache’s version of a website may be fast but most importantly, it will help you to get to the content that’s currently being choked due to high traffic on a website.

Workaround #2 – Using Google Cache

Whenever a page crawled by Google’s web spiders, it is cached. The cache is kept in Google’s server for very long time. So, if you land to a webpage that doesn’t exist anymore, you can browse to it’s Google Cache version by adding cache: before its URL (on Google searchbox or Chrome address bar).
For example, typing cache:http://www.ckkapoor.blogpsot.com on Google searchbox will take you to Google Cache’s version of our website’s homepage. Alternatively, you can select “Cached” option from Google search result of any website to browse it’s cached version created by Google.

Workaround #3 – Using Wayback Machine

Wayback machine is the largest web cache for websites which not only keep the latest cache but also many previous cached version of a webpage. So, it can be used to check how a website looked in past.
Just enter a URL in Wayback Machine and it will list all the cache Wayback Machine have created for that webpage. You can then explore whatever cached version of a website or webpage you wants.

Tip - Wayback machine can have download link to a file or software that has now been removed from a webpage. ;-)
Many bookmarking services (such as del.icio.us) also create cached version of a webpage when you save it. So, it will be clever idea to save a webpage in your favorite bookmarking site if you want its permanent access forever.
